Monroe County Tournament

Always one of the best tournaments the state has to offer, the Monroe County Championships did not disappoint.  There were some exciting matches featuring many returning state reps and state place finishers.  Victor ended the weekend with a 9th place finish and 8 All County wrestlers.

Codey Jensen entered the tournament as the number 8 seed at 106 pounds but picked up an upset win to finish in 6th place.  Ryan Baronsky suffered some close losses but managed to earn an 8th place finish and a spot on the 120 lb. podium.  Tucker Hill came away with a 7th place showing while Alex Sidare finished in 7th at 160 lbs.   Regan Endres made his debut in his first full varsity tournament and captured 8th place at 195 lbs.  At 170 lbs. Jack Kumpf was slotted as the 6th seed.  In the quarter finals Kumpf won a convincing match over the 3 seed from Hilton.  In the semi finals Kumpf outlasted the 2 seed from Fairport with a 4-3 decision placing him in the finals.  Kumpf would drop a 7-4 decision to the 1 seed from Brockport to finish in 2nd place.  Mason Everhart was the 2 seed at 182 lbs and dominated his path to the finals.  There he faced the 1 seed from Hilton and finished in 2nd place.  At 132 lbs. Alex Samson was the 1 seed and demonstrated why as he cruised to the finals.  Samson, currently ranked #3 in the state faced a familiar opponent from Spencerport (currently the #4 state ranked wrestler).  Samson got the board early with a take-down and never looked back, earning a 7-3 victory and claimed his 3rd consecutive Monroe County Championship, the 3 Peat!!!

The Varsity team is improving with every competition and will be back at it after the holidays, competing in the 43 team field of the Haines Tournament at SUNY Oswego on Dec. 29th and 30th.
